CNN Talks About Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) for Newsgathering
There is a lot of buzz about “drones”, properly known as Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), and how they might play a role in many aspects of daily life. From hobbyists and tech geeks enamored with the newest fangled gadgetry, to online retailers possibly delivering books and CDs to their customers in a jiffy, to international military agencies extending their capabilities, UAS is drawing a lot of attention and speculation. Many parties are weighing in on issues ranging from technology capabilities, to safety and privacy concerns, and regulatory, business and practical applications.
CNN is seen as a leader in newsgathering, and even in this field, CNN takes the lead to explore the use of UAS for newsgathering. In this interview, CNN Newsource talks to Greg Agvent, CNN’s director of domestic newsgathering, to hear what has been learnt so far, and more importantly, how this might apply to our affiliate partners to enhance their local newsgathering efforts.
